Tihar -Hindu's Second Great Festival

    Tihar is the most important day for brothers and sisters. The festival of lights celebrated by Hindus for five days. The first day of Tihar is Crow Tihar. The Crow is regarded as the messenger of information. So, people provide it foods on this day. Similarly, the second day is Dog Tihar. the Dog is regarded as the gate guard of Yama. So, people provide it with special foods on this day. The third day is called Laxmi Pooja. The Cow mother. In the evening of this day., People have Deepawali by lighting many lamps everywhere. The goddess Laxmi, the goddess of the property is worshipped.

Tihar Song - Song of Tihar

On this day women go to have 'Bhailo'. They sing it with melodious sound. On this evening inside and outside every place of houses looks dazzling and twinkling. Everyone tries to illuminate his/her house with Diyos, lamps, candles and other electric lights. Next day Ox Tihar falls. People worship Ox and provide foods. Cow dung is worshipped as Mt. Govardhan. Then Deusi songs are started everywhere.

Tihar Wishes

            The last day of Tihar is called Bhai Teeka. On this day, sisters put Teeka of Five or seven colors on their brother's forehead and give the garlands of marigold, Amaranths or Chrysanthemum to put on wishing for their happiness and long-life. Various types of sweets, spices, and foods are offered. In return, their brothers put Teeka on their sister's forehead and provide various gifts or clothes.

 This festival is related to Yama, the god of death and his sister Yamuna. So, it is also known as Yama-Panchak. According to the religious story, the Yamuna, the sister of Yama invited her brother. He stayed at her home five days and had Bhai Teeka on the day of Kartik Shukla Dittiya. Since then the Bhai Teeka has been Celebrating. This festival has been helping to improve the deep relation between brothers and sisters and love each other. This day also reminds the need of sister of the brother in life who hasn't got brother or sister.
